What does it mean to be a science-based skincare company?

Wild Resilience

The world of skincare is awash in a vast array of buzzy ingredients, some of which have little to no real evidence to back up their claims about effectiveness. As a consumer, it can be difficult to navigate all of these claims and find products that actually work for your skin. Here at Ellis Day Skin Science, we do things differently. We take the ‘Science’ part of our name very seriously, and science is a fundamental part of who we are and of everything we do. But what does that really mean from a practical standpoint?

For one, it means that our products are formulated with active ingredients that your skin actually needs, and all of our claims are backed by real science and clinical studies. Our flagship product, Wild Resilience Active Phage Serum harnesses the power of bacteriophages (phages for short), which are tiny microbes naturally found on healthy skin. These phages  target and kill only the bacteria that cause blemishes, breakouts, and inflammation, without harming the good microbes on your skin. In doing so, they help to balance your skin microbiome — eliminating the bad bacteria and helping the good bacteria to grow and flourish, which is definitely a win-win in our book!

Being a science-based skincare company also means that we don’t add anything to our products that don’t need to be there, such as masking agents, dyes, or artificial fragrances. When you look at our ingredient list, you will never see a laundry list of trendy ingredients and botanicals that are added more for how they sound or smell than for what there is data showing they do. Instead, our products are carefully crafted to maximize skin health and avoid any ingredients that may be irritating or sensitizing to your skin.

And lastly, being a science-based skincare company means that we have a deep understanding and appreciation for how science works in the real world. Scientific inquiry is a dynamic process, and our understanding of the natural world is continually changing and evolving, as new studies are conducted using ever more advanced technologies. Nowhere is this more evident than in the study of the skin microbiome. In just the past 10 years, our insight into the community of microbes that live on our skin has grown by leaps and bounds. We now know the importance of a healthy and balanced skin microbiome and the protective role that our skin microbes play in maintaining our skin health.

However, the work is far from over and, in fact, microbiome science is still in its infancy. As techniques for analyzing the skin microbiome become more advanced, our understanding of this complex microbial community is sure to grow, yielding many more exciting discoveries in the coming years. At Ellis Day, we have our finger on the pulse of this rapidly growing field and will always be ready to adapt and grow with the science and to bring the benefits of these findings to you, our Ellis Day customers.

Wishing all of our Ellis Day family a very Happy New Year, and cheers to all the exciting science that 2021 has in store ❤️ 🥂 🍾

About Ellis Day Skin Science

We believe that modern skincare must be grounded in true microbiome science. We believe the answers are in the wild, natural world, which includes the surface of your skin.

At Ellis Day Skin Science, we pioneer natural phage-based products that target and kill bad bacteria associated with inflammation, damage, and aging, and enable good bacteria to flourish. By doing so, we aim to reset your microbiome for optimal skin health.

We use cutting-edge science to leverage nature and generate clinical data to support our claims, creating products that are just as kind and conscientious as they are effective, so that all can feel empowered with balanced, clear, radiant, and resilient skin.
